Glossary AB CD EF GH IJ KL MN OP QR ST UV WX YZ Creatine A nitrogenous organic compound that is often used in the body as a transport for a phosphate group. Like protein, creatine is comprised of amino acids. Creatine in the body is often converted to creatine phosphate. Whenever adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is broken down to adenosine diphosphate (ADP) for energy, the creatine phosphate will donate the phosphate group to convert the ADP back into ATP. This will increase the muscles' resistance to fatigue when moving heavy loads. Creatine is produced in the body and is found in red meats and fish. It can also be consumed in the form of supplements such as creatine monohydrate or creatine ethyl ester. |
