Glossary AB CD EF GH IJ KL MN OP QR ST UV WX YZ Starvation A deficiency in one or more nutrients (usually protein or carbohydrates) which forces the body to cannibalize lean tissue in order to get or make the nutrients for use in processes which need them. Starvation can occur by skipping meals or consuming deficient meals. Starvation often causes a loss of lean mass and a resulting reduction in the Resting Metabolic Rate. Long term starvation can cause death. |
